the swim in the morning yesterday was..ok I forgot the workout, but had looked at it before I left so i had some idea of it. I liked the 50's 25 fly then 25 free. Followed by 8 sets of 200 free. My arms and shoulders were totally pumped when I finished. I love that feeling.

Remember the asian chiick. She was getting in the lane next to me as I was finishing my warm up. The water temp was perfect even a little cool. So I told her. Total blank look on her face. I tell her again, still blank look on her face, then strange foreign sounds fall from her lips. Ha she doesn't speak a word of English, or she was playing possum to throw me off! lol

Things that annoy me on group rides.

Guys that have to make huge sweeps across the road to go round a corner at 10 mph or at any speed under 50. Its just not necessary and fucking dangerous as hell in a group.
Guys that cant hang on a wheel to save their life and so break up the group.
Guys that are somewhere at the back, but feel they have to call out every frickin car that is approaching just so they can be the first ones to say it.
Guys that feel they have to yell out when to turn even when they dont know the route themselves.

Other than that it was a great ride last night. Still feeling stronger and stronger. Last night I even won a couple of the sprints and the last one that I really hate i timed it perfect and passed all the other guys that had broke early and took 3rd. Its not really like anyone is keeping count. But I'm pretty sure everyone is keeping tabs in their head.

Oww I nearly forgot to mention my totally awesome 15 bean cajun soup. With reading my sports nutrition book I decided I needed more beans, lentils etc. I tried to make this soup a couple of days ago. It takes forever. Soak the beans for 8 hours then simmer them for another 2 and half. The first time I soaked them then went to simmering them in 2 quarts of water and forgot about them and the water simmered all the way down and I burnt the beans. This time I soaked them, then simmered them during the day. I put the stewed tomatoes, lemon juice, sausage and spices in before I went riding and figured i could just heat and eat when I got home.

The first thing I notice when I walk in the door, is the smell of the spices. Oh shit I left the stove on!. The water had simmered down completely but it hadnt quite started to burn. I pushed it to the back of the stove in disgust. But then after my shower I wondered what to eat. I looked at the non soup and thought Id give it a try. It was fantastic! I kinda preferred it like that than as a soup.

Keep it up and you'll outgrow that ride completely.

Take a break for the crit then. I finally started listening to my buddy/coach and decided that chasing the guys Tuesday wasn't the right strengthening answer for me. Doing sprint heats and intervals on my own where I control the timing and pacing rather than going at someone else's dictate was his plan. Especially now I'm commuting to work by bike in addition to the rides.

You can just put in the extra water and sausage and leave it in the crock pot all day, add the tomatoes when you get home. I have one with a temperature dial, 350 would do it.

Where do you swim? have you tried out that Y ?

my crock pot is a crap pot! Well it doesnt have a thermostat with different settings, just high or low. It would have worked out fine the way I did it, except I left the stove on when I left to go ride.

I think, if you just set it on low and throw everything in it in the morning, it should be fine by the evening.

My bike has been cranky lately--something about my damn disc brake scraping the edge or something :-( Makes me sad because the weather has been PERFECT lately.

could be a bent disc. Lift the wheel and spin it looking right down on the disc and see if you can see it wobble. It might also be either the skewer not in the lugs correctly or the caplier is for some reason moved. Check that the skewer is sitting in the lugs correctly by loosening it and letting it settle into the lugs. For the caliper you can loosen the two bolts holding it to the frame or fork on the front. spin the wheel then pull the brake on, while holding the brake tighten the caliper bolts, this will re centre the caliper on the disc.

This recipe called for browning the sausage with galic and onion, then later adding the tomatoes and lemon juice. I think it would kill the flavours to slow cook it all, all day. Plus im dealing with cutting the recipe down from the original that was good for about 500 people! so its a bit of an experiment with the amount of water and ingredients.

lol yeah, I wasnt looking forward to 15 beans, but it turned out really good, using stewed tomatoes really gave it a nice flavour too.

Its a standard sign of warning you that he is slowing. Some open and close so it looks like a flashing brake light, others just hold out the palm.

If he was coasting a lot, it sounds like he really didnt know what he was doing drafting anyway. There is a skill in ridng in the right gear and being able to not put as much pressure on the pedals so you dont have to stop peddling all the time. And it really was pretty rude of him to just jump on your wheel with out some sort of acknolegment in the first place. I usually show someone my wheel next to them so they know Im there and maybe say hi before I settle in behind.

I did not know that...I do use hand signals when there are cars behind me...

Road etiquette--right side or left side of one-way streets? The way I do it is "pick whatever side has the most room and stick with it as long as you can". It doesn't help that Philly drivers suck ass (hence lane-splitting and weaving on my part), but I was curious to know your opinion.

I think you got that one right. You have to call it as you see it best, depending on how much room you have. Riding on the left I guess you could say they have more chance of seeing you in the drivers side mirror, but then when do they ever bother to look for cyclist's in either mirror anyway.

15 bean chili??!! Wow, I would have been sleeping alone or on the couch after eating something like that -- not that the prospect of such would deter from consuming it. Recipe, please? :o)

Lol yeah, they had quite an effect on me too.

Heres the link to the company. look under recipe, it looks like the only one they have. I made mine with turkey sausage as that had the least fat.
