Been looking at jobs in northern Queensland and even the northern territories. there's quite a bit on offer. Its not only sparsely populated, but they had really bad storms that damaged a lot of houses over the last few months. I also made contact with a woman in Queensland who i did the helpx thing for. she would love to have me back to do more things on her house and I mentioned to her that Id like to find some paying work and she has a friend that has a house that also needs work and would pay. So sorta taking it one day at a time. I need to leave NZ by the end of May and I have my flight booked for gold coast, wouldn't cost much to take a flight up to cairns from there. I could stay for a month or two and see how it goes, then either go back to NZ to sell the van, or leave everything and go on to Europe, that kind of depends on what happens in the next month while in auckland.

There's been a huge amount of rain over the last few days. The other day it was non stop all day and now we have flooding over this part of new Zealand. A small babbling brook that I hopped from rock to rock to cross the other day is now a raging river. I'm using the rain as an excuse not to go on up to Auckland. I like it here and Im nervous about getting involved in the renovation project up there and also the living environment. Im sure it will be fine, but as usual i hate change, ironic considering how much travel i do! The camp site had a professional karioke come over easter. It was just one night a guy and a girl who both were pretty good singers. Its one thing for people to try to sing another when they try to do it naked! Ok there wasn't many that were nude, it was pretty cold that night, but certainly gave the affair another dimension. In the morning someone had slipped an easter egg under my camper. Still don't know who that was.

Wow this is the worst Ive noticed my suspected Alzheimer's to be. I'm sitting here around lunch time and I think "didn't I make a sandwich? Or wasn't I about to?" I can feel the cheese in my mouth and look on the kitchen table and see a cup and plate and realize I made the sandwich and ate it already, but I've completely forgotten that fact.

Ran? shit I forget. Biked a couple of days ago. Was really depressed, felt pretty strong on the climbs, but then lost umph. I started to think about my old friend Kim and how she would train and train and train. She'd always come in 2nd or 3rd in a race and people would be so congratulatory of her, avoiding the fact that there had only been 3 or 4 people in her cat. She never trained hard and so never improved. This is what I'm doing now. I never train hard and just plod along. Ive increased my stamina, but if I put the hammer down then I flake really quick.

Swam yesterday and was pleased that I'd already got back to being able to do 500's and even cruise a little.

Its pissing it down with rain. Started last night and hasn't let up. They say its going to be like this for the next few days then clear again on Tuesday.

I have most of the details I needed from the guys in Taupo. Looks like they wont give me much of a break on spreading the costs of the printing and design, so Id have to spend almost all my money to get the two areas into production. Not sure I could even survive until the money came back in from the ad sales. I'm going to talk with a sales guy here in Rotorua that the guy in Taupo suggested I meet with. He might have some insight as to how and when to pitch to the market here in Rotorua. Also been ok'd for me to go down to Taupo and go out on some sales calls with the reps for the Taupo map.

Found two more job offerings for handyman/maintenance in the south of France. One is in St Tropez with a really upmarket rental housing agency, like the cost of renting the villa includes the use of the helicopter!. Kinda sounds cool. But they both wanted people immediately so I don't think I can get them. But its become rather intriguing to go work in something like this back in Europe. The logistics of what I'd do with my stuff in NZ is a little bit of a problem though.

massive storm moved through last night, we caught the tail end of cyclone Wilma, and today its a strange mix of sun cloud and constant really strong winds.

Dream last night was me on a motorcycle, on my BMW GS or at least one like it. I was on a narrow street and got on the bike to ride off, but a bus was parked that I couldn't get past. I rode up a rock wall that started at ground level then went up. As I was passing the bus and about to drop back onto the road the bus started moving so that by the time I got past the bus I was so high on the wall I couldn't jump off back onto the road. I veered off onto the other side of the wall and was sort of stuck.

I keep thinking about this meeting on Wednesday. I don't want to give all the business away to them. I guess I'll only know how its going to play out after I meet them. They maybe totally unrealistic or they maybe really cool to work with and a good opportunity. If I went in with them on all the good locations I want to do, it could be really difficult to get them back out and to get the business myself. I'm also seeing that the printing prices I'm getting from India arnt really that much cheaper than what I can get here. So why are all these companys charging so much for their ad spots? Is there something I'm missing from my costings? This will be part of the benefit's of working with a company that has produced one before, they will know all the in's and outs.

I went looking on HelpX again the other day and came across a woman in Auckland that lives in the same area as my journalist friend which is also the same area as Susan the yoga woman I met the the other day. They all live withing 2 blocks of each other! This woman on Helpx wants someone to help her build some sort of studio in her backyard. Whats interesting is she is a graphic designer and does have map making experience! Ive already been in touch with her and she is asking when am I coming to Auckland.

I finally called the guy that runs the trail making program. They have 50 people working down in Nelson! wow 50, its an 8 hour a day 5 days a week job and I have to do it for 3 months to qualify for the work in Chile. I'm sure its pretty flexible with the 3 months and he has said others are working more part time.I'd be living in my campervan, and I loved the camp site in Nelson that I staid at for a month a couple of years ago. Only thing is, I need to be able to work legally in NZ. I asked how he does this for Chile and he claims they arrange the work papers. I think this might be bull, so it might be possible he can get me on the crew and pay me cash or through some other way. I need to send in my ap. It does worry me to have to work 40 hours a week, but on the other hand I feel like I really need some routine in my life. This has become apparent when this bad weather set in and I felt really down and lost because I couldnt get out and do my workouts, without those I have nothing anymore. It will be time to meet with the map making people in Taupo next week, this will be another decider on whether I go back to the UK or not.

part of thinking about going back to the UK got me looking at the places available on HelpX in Europe. There are some utterly amazing places! Of course lots of farmhouses that need work, so Id have no problem. Some of these places are in incredible locations, in Cannes, or beautiful historic villages all over Spain, France and Italy. A lot are ex pats from the UK or even the US.

Its time to update this thing!

I was talking to Debi and we we're both saying how when things are going good you dont right in your journal. And boy are things going good!

Debi and I are so in love! ahh how cute. Last week we went away to Miami beach for our first trip away together and also the first time we did the wild thing. She'd been holding out on me until the trip..Kinda making it romantic and very memorable. Boy did she ever make up for lost time! She's really everything I ever wanted in a woman.

Her parents lived in London the last 8 years and her Dad retired last year so they moved back here to the US. They bought a house in a podunk town in Kentucky to be near Deb;s sister, but the town is so backward they cant stand it. So they just bought a place down here in Atlanta. I've got to meet them quite a few times and they are really cool. Her mum is a bit of a primadona, but sweet and her Dad is just this layed back easy going guy. Since they spent so much time in England its really easy to relate to them too.

Motorcycling..humm well I sold the race bike, but then a friend wanted me to race with him so much he offered me one of his bikes at a price I couldnt refuse! I went down to Jennings and ran the bike a few weeks ago and wow. It is so much faster than my old bike and so fucking beutiful! Debi is even being suportive of this and is coming with me to Jennings this Friday and then again to Barber next week. I told her I really wanted to do a few WERA races then pack it in. I think she knows how dangerous it is but shes putting on a brave face. She may change her mind when she actualy sees how fast we do go at the track.

Debi and I have plans to go to Tallahassee to see her old and best friends down there. Thats in April then in May we are looking at going to San Fran to do the Bay bridge run. Talking of running, we run together on Wednesday nights and swim together on Sunday mornings. Last Sunday I took her mountain biking and she really did well. She likes it and wants to do more!

The new house is going well..ok not that great..keep finding more things that will have to be repaired, but thats the way it always goes. i picked up two labourers that have been working out really well. Mexican guys. I really have to start learning Spanish!

Ok thats not a bad entry. I'll try better to keep up.
