Rotorua and rain
May. 10th, 2009 09:10 pmI managed to get a great ride in yesterday. Its been raining most days lately and yesterday was the only clear day. Rode 2.40 and did 22 miles of pretty hard core single track. Rode part of, and the worst part of the Xterra race course and although I wasn't some speed demon on the big everlasting climb, I did feel much more power in my legs and spun up there much faster than I ever have. Did some great down hills too and blasted past these guys, that at the bottom were all "wow dude you were flying" which I literally was, flying off big jumps that before Id been braking for. Met a woman back in the car park, who Id past early. We got talking and she was pretty cool. She did the Xterra, but had a flat tire that she had trouble fixing and it cost her a lot of time, not enough time that she still qualified for The World Championship race in Hawaii. She told me that she's always been a roadie and done road tri's, she also does marathons and qualified for NY in the top 100. she just got into mountain biking and is loving it. What I thought was really cool, was she said she was mad at herself on some of the jumps and berms and on one had gone back three times to get the nerve to really jump one particular jump. She gave me her email and phone number, and if the weather ever clears maybe we'll ride before I leave. I did look her up on google, since she said shed done so many races. Couldnt find anything on her but one website lists her as the athletic director of a college here.
I ran the old Xterra course tonight. Got there late because it was thunder storms earlier. So I only managed one loop. Cinsidering the hard ride yesterday, I'm totally stoked that I my legs felt super strong on the run. Everything felt just awesome. Now is when I need to be doing the damn Xterra! Oh well next year I'll be here two months earlier and so plenty of time to get ready then.
