Something woke me at 3.00am this morning. I heard the noise of an engine outside and looked out to see a car parking on the end of my dead end street. A flame appeared in the car and dimly revealed the two occupants. Two people smoking a joint? I dont care about that, but it concerns me that this dead end be known as a place for skulduggery to be indulged. I flashed on the flood light that lights my driveway, but they didn't seem concerned. I hate to get someone in trouble for just smoking a joint, but as I say I dont want this street to be known as a place where you can get away with things. I only just got the hookers to stop bringing their tricks to the vacant house across the street. So I somewhat begrudgingly called the cops. Of course 10 minutes later the car leaves and 5 minutes after that the cop car arrives. Oh well no harm no foul. Maybe the 420's saw the cop car when they were driving away and it will make them think again about coming down here.

3.30 and Im obviously not going to go back to sleep and Im not really feeling tired since I went straight off to sleep at 10.00. I think when Im not working out I dont need half as much sleep. Usually my body doesn't give me any say in the matter and nothing will wake me up until almost exactly 8 hours has past. I actually felt like when i went on the Welbutrine. Id wake up then and just jump out of bed itching to get my day going. But this morning since I still dont think its a good idea to swim and I dont think my neighbors would appreciate me cutting fence posts at this time, I pulled over the lap top and fired it up to see what was going on in the world.

Looked in on LJ and the first thing I see is a post in [livejournal.com profile] abandonedplaces this is a great community, the artistic talent that comes out of there is amazing and such interesting subject matter. So this morning there is a post by someone that took shots of Balaclava in Ukraine. The photos where kind of interesting, but the name of the place was more interesting. I knew some famous battle had gone on their but could remember anything else. Wikipedia to the rescue.

After reading all the accounts of the battle, I started to get interested in the people responsible for the charge. Who were these Lords and Earls that got into positions of power through birth and committed such blunders. I spent 2 hours reading going further and further back in history of battles and kings and lineage. Totally fascinating stuff.

Well, so theres a way to start the day. Of course give me about a day and my brain will have muddled up all the info it just took in and I either wont remember any of it or it will all be jumbled up and come out in some conversation as "oh yeah Balaclava, I remember reading something about that"

Oww 6.10am and I hear the first birdies tweeting. Funny to think that last year I would have already been swimming for 30 mins by now.

Somedays you need to take a break, one missed morning of swimming isnt going to trash your routine. :)

I think of you often, even though I've hardly had time to fart, let alone be on LJ. I did read back and those trees in your backyard look nice. You should build a deck up there, sort of like tree house so you can sit up there and chill. :)

Ah thats nice. yeah well Im missing all your updates. skip the farts and just get to the posts! Thats a pretty good idea on the deck up in the trees, I hardly ever go down that far in the yard and I looked today and there are two trees that I could span something across.

As far as missing one morning, you must have missed the part about the cold this last week. Ive skipped everything all week and I have a race next weekend. yikes.

If you like the material you see in [livejournal.com profile] abandonedplaces I think you'll enjoy some of the photographic work of Camilo Jose Vergara. I used to live in the Detroit area and always found it to be an amazing, haunting place because of the decay and the promise that the city once commanded. Vergara really captures abandoned buildings really well; his work is sentimental but not insipid. I also had a friend who photographed many, many abandoned buildings in and around Detroit and I think some of his work can be found online but I'll have to hunt some of it down.

I like his idea of leaving a group of high rises abandoned as a park. I wonder what will happen to citys like Detriot. They will never be the industrial power houses they use to be. You did good to get out, California has got to be like night and day from Detroit.
