Dec. 23rd, 2010 09:43 pmI cant remember if I was back on AI or the GSI program when last we spoke of it. But here's the deal. I am back on AI. After looking at a few websites that mention Jims program and strangely the best one was a cartographers club, (who'd have thought there could be such a thing) and of all things it's in Atlanta! they mention not only how frustrating the program is to use, but from the examples Ive seen its as I thought and very flat. It more of a technical program and I need a little bit of pizazz that Ai can give me. So at least now I can just focus on getting down with AI. The book, grr almost completely useless. It really for advanced users and only talked about special effects that I dont need. One good thing I discovered today. After looking carefully at two of my favorite tourist maps, one for Taupo the other for Rotorua. I noticed first that there were mistakes not edited out on the Rotorua CBD. They actually highlighted the main road in AI and then forgotten to unhighlight it, so all the pen points were showing. But then on really close inspection of both maps I realized that their CBD inserts arnt an enlargement of the general map they are completely separate maps. Do you realize what this means! No of course you don't. It means they didn't copy and paste from the general map, which is what has been driving me crazy to figure out how to do. No they just re drew the enlargements from scratch.
The weather has really run the gamut here. I arrived and it was sunny and in the 80's then the temps dropped to were I was pulling out the down sleeping bag at night. Then it started raining. the last couple of nights its rained lightly but it was really muggy and hot. Now finally this morning I woke to clear sky's. Humm time for the beach again me thinks. I was really worrying I was going to loose my all over tan, so needed to go top it up. Plus I wanted one good rest day on my legs. Actually i think that is two rests days on the legs now, but they certainly needed it. The last bike ride was just an hour mountain bike, but from the get go my legs hurt. I dont think that kind of ride does any good and only increases my chances of an injury. I might try for a road ride tomorrow.
Being away from pretty much anyone I know, means no Christmas shopping! No stress about it, no panic, no guilt. I guess I could have sent cards, but oh well. I did want to get something for the couple that run the campsite, they are always so good to me and for looking after the van and never charging me, so I really wanted to get them something. They have just had a new baby, she is very cute, and they love taking pictures of her and posting them on FB. They have a few other kids too and they are into the photos, but not so good with the technology. So I thought a nice gift would be one of those digital picture frames. i found one that has been on sale at a local chain store. They were out of stock. Looked online and they had it available. Ordered it. It arrived yesterday. I opened it and found a portable dvd player! I wasnt really sure what to do. the player is worth double what the picture frame is worth, but I know they have no use for it. It would be too late to try to send it back and get the right thing. So today at the beach I saw that there was another of the same stores. went in explained what happened. Had to wait for a manager, then had to wait ages in the que. They also were out of stock of the 7inch picture frame, but they had an 8in which for some reason was way more expensive. I asked if they would make a straight swap for the DVD player for the 8inch and they did! Such nice Kiwi's. So cool, now they get an even better present, and Im done with all this Christmas crap.
