Rotata is my Maori name, given to me by the couple that run the camp site. They are so nice, Its so awesome that I get to meet people like this. They are going to look after the van while I'm away and they have been joking around with me ever since I got here. tonight Tracy came over with a plate of food. A big ole roast dinner! I took the plate back over when Id finished and met her Mum and Dad. Her Dad is this chatty funny guy. Just so cool to hang out with real locals. They want me to be back in NZ for Christmas so I can join their 50+ family for the party. Christmas in summer!? I should try that.
Even with the rain I managed a nice run in the redwoods forest. Beautiful forest and almost a spiritual experience running amongst those huge trees.
Yesterday I bought the perfect bike shorts. Im so pleased with them. They are Fox brand and a camo sort of colour, which I really like after everything else being black. They are sort of baggie, but not the huge baggies that make you look like a midget. I've been trying to find a bike short that I can wear as regular shorts when Im traveling, and when Im biking have the chamois protection and also a certain arrangement of pockets, so I could easily carry my camera while biking and walking. They also needed to have pockets that would be useful for just general traveling and hiking. It was a long list of things and I walk into this shop that didn't look like it would have anything. I poke around and don't see anything, and as a last sort of cursory remark, ask the spotty faced kid behind the counter if he has bike pants with a removable liner. He goes to work and tells me he is sure he has some. I was really sorta just killing time, and didn't think he would ever find anything, when blow me he pulls out these pants that are everything I've been looking for. I made sure I praised his service in front of his boss and it was nice to hear his boss as i walked out say to the kid, "you really served him well". So everyone was happy. I really hate shopping, but when I find something that I know is what I want, it makes me so happy. These pants are going to have to hold up to some hard abuse.
