4 bike rack for under $15
Jun. 15th, 2007 03:42 pmWana make a simple 4 bike rack for under $15. Heres how.
Take a length of 2x4 and divide it into as many bikes as you want to hang. I had 4 bikes and a set of race zipps. I divided the spaces between each hook to 16 inches which racks the bike close but not so close to make them hit each other. Screw in the hooks to the 2x4. Drill two holes in each end of the 2x4 about 12 inches in. Take a length of threaded rod. this length depends on how deep your ceiling joists are, attach a nut and washer at one end and slide through the holes in the 2x4. Id already marked out the placement of the holes in the ceiling and drilled those. the beauty of using the threaded rod over say a lag bolt is that it only makes two very small holes in the ceiling, which can easily be repaired when you remove the rack.
Next take two more pieces of 2x4 long enough to span the ceiling joists, Drill a hole in each of these in the middle. You will need to measure out your ceiling joists and make sure that you drill between them into the drywall up though to the attic.
ahh fuck it this is taking longer to write than it did to put the damn rack up. Look at the pics and if you want more info, comment.
