Its been a year now since little Minke died. I miss that little girl so much. I still talk to her daily, which worries me a little. I was always very attached to her, but talking to your dead cat, which a lot of the time is conversations I have in my head is just a little weird. I really cant commit to another cat, I just dont see myself being in America that much longer.

Set the alarm clock for 4.30 then the second timer for 5.30. Seems the 4.30 one past without my knowledge, but the 5.30 has worked. gona pack up the motorcycle and ride up to the lake at Ft Yargo and test out the water for the race.

I'm sure the local animal shelter would let you foster a few kittens--it is kitten season, after all.

REALLY! they let you do that? you can just look after one for a while? that would be perfect. Except when it came to giving it up, but then I guess you just trade it in for another. I'll have to look into that.

Yep--or your local cat rescue group (everywhere). Usually they need fosters if the kittens are too young to be adopted out.

PLUS they'll usually cover the cost of worming meds and what-all (at least they do, here). Yeah, you would have to give them up eventually, but if you can't commit to having an actual pet, it's better than nothing.

I am sorry to read about the loss of your cat. I thought you just bought a house or some land; are you selling it? And I am sure that a shelter or rescue would be happy to have you foster a cat or kitten. I tried doing that once and ended up keeping two of the three kittens because they just stole my heart. You have a built in reason for being unable to permanently bring a new cat home, which can help prevent you from getting too attached.

Hey, another cat-person!

Yes, they definitely steal into your heart--and then proceed to wrap your life around their teensy little paws...

I'm a total cat lady. My friends and colleagues at work somehow regard me as the cat expert, so I get all the questions about which vet to see, which food to feed, toys, etc. Even my family refers to me as the cat lady; I get cat-themed gifts at the holidays (thankfully nothing cheesy like a sweater with knitting cats on the front). I don't mind it too much, as it's better than being referred to in hushed undertones as the lady who is always screaming at the sky or the crazy bitch with the Land Rover. Thankfully, both of those characterizations have been taken by women at my job....And those two kittens in my icon are the cats in question: Newton and Mars.

Aw, what a sweet moment. She was a very pretty kitty. I don't think it's odd to have conversations with your cat even if she's not here; sometimes I talk to my grandma and she passed away a few years ago. I know a few folks who talk to their loved ones who have passed on, animal and human alike. You're keeping her memory alive and that's one of the best ways to commemorate the time you had together.

Oh, but she's such a beautiful kitty! I'm so sorry that you had to put her down.

And you're not so bad-looking yourself, either ;-D

I know how it is: my family likes to call me up for animal-related problems, too. I'm like their vet, except I can't prescribe stuff :-)

I have two black cats, too! I scooped Shadow off the streets and decided to keep her (after a $200 vet bill, I'm sure as hell not letting someone else adopt her), and then I adopted Tibbles to keep Shadow company.

Im hopefully closing on a peice of land and a construction loan to build a new house, but that is business and a house to sell. It shouldnt take more than a year to build and sell and then Id re evaluate if i should leave. I have a few things here in the US that are prompting me to greatly consider it, and I never really came here with the intention to stay. I was off to travel the world and just somehow got stuck for 25 years! Lately that world has been calling.
